We're looking for a Pet Loss Support Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, support and develop a dedicated network of volunteers who help deliver our helpline, email, webchat and social media support services. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by ensuring people receive the support they need when they need it most.
More about the role
As Pet Loss Support Volunteer Coordinator, you'll play a key role in delivering a high-quality volunteer-led service across the UK. You'll build strong relationships with volunteers, ensuring they are well-trained, supported and equipped to provide compassionate support to service users.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Recruiting, onboarding and supporting volunteers across the UK.
- Coordinating volunteer rotas to maintain service coverage.
- Organising induction, training and ongoing development opportunities.
- Providing guidance, coaching and feedback to volunteers.
- Monitoring service delivery across telephone, email, webchat and social media channels.
- Responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and escalating where required.
- Promoting the Pet Loss Support service through presentations, events and stakeholder engagement.

The role also includes participation in an evening and weekend on-call rota, providing support and guidance to volunteers when needed.
This is a home-based role and you will be attached to a nominated Blue Cross site, which will act as your contractual base. Travel to your nominated site is considered normal commuting. Occasional travel to partner organisations and other Blue Cross locations will be required.
About you
You'll be an organised and compassionate individual with experience supporting or coordinating volunteers and delivering excellent customer service.
You'll be confident building relationships remotely, providing guidance and feedback, and balancing a range of competing priorities. You'll have strong administrative and communication skills, be comfortable using digital systems and databases, and be able to deal professionally with sensitive and emotive situations.
Most importantly, you'll share our values of being compassionate, courageous and inclusive, and be motivated by the opportunity to make a positive difference to people experiencing pet loss.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Experience leading or managing volunteers
- Proven track record of delivering exceptional customer care
- Strong communication skills
- Solid administrative experience
- Proficient in MS Office and web-based platforms and databases
- The ability to demonstrate, understand and apply our Blue Cross values
Desirable Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers
- Experience working on a helpline/advice line
- Theoretical knowledge of bereavement and grief support
- Safeguarding experience
- An awareness of health & safety legislation
