We are looking for a friendly, reliable and motivated Pharmacy Assistant Apprentice to join a busy community pharmacy team. This is a great opportunity to earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience in a healthcare environment while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification.
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Responsibilities
Here's the exciting bit…a great day includes:
- You will work with the pharmacy team, helping and serving customers, giving appropriate advice on products, ensuring shelves are stocked and the counter is welcoming and attractive.
Duties will include:
- Understanding what the Superdrug Pharmacy customer wants
- Demonstrating exceptional customer service
- Understanding the business and maintaining the brand reputation
- Resolving customer queries
- Using knowledge to promote products to customers
- Adhering to all policies and procedures
Your training will take place in the store, so no college days and no homework! At the end of your training period, you will complete a discussion around your experiences, a multiple-choice test and an observation within your role. You will be supported throughout by your team and your assessor to achieve your Retail Level 2 Apprenticeship.
What you'll learn:
- Receive and log prescriptions
- Assemble prescribed items, undertake an in-process accuracy check and issue prescribed items
- Work according to legislative requirements, and organisational policies
- Order, receive, maintain and issue pharmaceutical stock
- Provide appropriate advice when authorised on supplied medicines and products, their storage and disposal
- Work within the parameters of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the pharmacy
- Act in accordance with systems and organisational governance
- Recognise and act within the pharmacy regulatory, legal and ethical standards
- Support the team in the development of others
- Maintain and further develop your own skills and knowledge through development activities; maintain evidence of your personal development and actively prepare for and participate in appraisal
- Communicate effectively with the public, carers and other health and social care professionals using a range of techniques to determine their needs, and keep information confidential
- Handle information (record, report and store information) related to individuals and/or patients in line with local and national policies
- Use pharmacy IT systems and other IT resources according to legislative requirements and organisational policies
- Demonstrate person centred care and support within a pharmacy setting
- Make pharmacy patients and patient safety your first concern
- Use judgement and refer service user as appropriate to another member of the team, GP, healthcare worker, manufacturer etc
- Maintain the interests of patients and the health of the public
- Promote and advocate equality, diversity and inclusion
- Promote healthy lifestyles to customers
- Work safely within the parameters of your role using Standard Operating Procedures
- Apply policies which relate to health and safety at work
- Act appropriately in situations to prevent harm to yourself and others

Requirements
What you’ll need to succeed:
- A passion for learning
- Be hard-working and looking for variety and a fast-paced working environment

- Have a strong work ethic and flexible approach
- Have an interest in the retail pharmacy business
- Be ambitious and keen to progress
- Be committed to achieving your qualification
You qualify if...
- You have a grade 4 / C GCSE (or equivalent) in English and maths
- You are not currently in any form of education, and you are available for full-time shifts
- You HAVEN’T completed a Retail Apprenticeship before
- You have not completed a degree or have more than 1 year at university
- You are eligible to work in the UK
- You are brand new to retail

Desirable qualifications:
- GCSE in Maths and English (grade 4)

Application Process
This is an exciting role that will include engaging with customers and clients to provide prescription counter services, advice, housekeeping duties such as stock rotation and stock replenishment, helping to deliver a variety of public health services whilst gaining a pharmacy qualification.
