Pharmacy Assistant – HMP Altcourse
Salary: £25,557 - £29,723 per annum
Our team is expanding, and we are looking for several Pharmacy Assistants to join our growing service at HMP Altcourse. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within our onsite pharmacy, while gaining exposure to a wider multi-disciplinary team in a unique and supportive healthcare environment.
The pharmacy team plays a vital role in delivering safe, effective care, and supporting each patient’s health journey.
Responsibilities
You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including:
- Work alongside Pharmacy Technicians on medication rounds (3 rounds per day: morning, lunchtime, and early evening)
- Second-checking and dispensing medication
- Working in the pharmacy and on the wings with patients
- Supporting nurses in clinic and treatment rooms
- Collaborating with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

Requirements
- ** NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Dispensing** is essential
- Previous pharmacy experience, whether within community, hospital, or a secure environment
About HMP Altcourse
HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in England, accommodating approximately 1,160 adult males with an average stay of 10 weeks. The Practice Plus Group provides primary care and substance misuse services across eight wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services.

Working Pattern
- Flexible hours required, including unsociable shifts (evenings and weekends as applicable)
- Shifts are between 7am – 8pm, Monday – Sunday.
