Job Description: General Store Associate – Tesco

About the Role

Our General Store Associate role is about serving customers with passion, ensuring every shopper leaves with a great experience. We’re looking for doers—those who enjoy variety, thrive in a dynamic environment, and want to make a real difference in their community.

Availability Window


Flexible & adaptable availability:

  • Friday & Saturday
    • Available 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Please note that 3 weeks’ notice will be provided for scheduling your shifts. If your availability matches closely but not exactly, we’ll still consider you.

As a Tesco colleague, your hourly wage starts at £13.28 or increases to £14.55 for stores within the M25. Additional payments may apply based on location. We provide a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours per week, but if you prefer fewer hours (*minimum 12), we’ll accommodate you as well.


Key Responsibilities


As a General Store Associate, you’ll:

  • Serve customers with pride – Understanding their needs, providing a welcoming and natural service.
  • Act as a product expert – Giving confident advice to shoppers about store products and services.
  • Apply training safely and effectively – Ensuring adherence to policies and high standards to meet customer needs.
  • Anticipate customer demands – Make timely decisions that enhance service, sales, and store performance.
  • Engage in community initiatives – Contribute to seasonal, community, and charity events to create a positive atmosphere.
  • Help drive efficiency – Monitor store performance, understand your role’s contribution to profitability and customer satisfaction.
  • Handle products safely – Ensure quality and condition to meet customer expectations.
  • Represent Tesco values – Embrace our culture of welcome, live the principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I), and follow all Tesco policies.
  • Support logistics at delivery times – Accepting deliveries when necessary.
