Pharmacy Technician Trainee
About the Role
The Pharmacy Technician Trainee demonstrates consistent application of knowledge and skills in assisting the pharmacist in executing appropriate, safe, efficacious, efficient, and cost-effective pharmaceutical care.
Job Specifics
Schedule
- Variable 10-hour days
- Rotations: Evening shift every 4th week
- Duties: Main pharmacy and oncolgy pharmacy, including:
- IV compounding
- Restocking Omnicells throughout the hospital
Shift Details
- Day shift: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM
- Evening shift: 1:30 PM – 11:30 PM
- Every other weekend rotation
- Every other holiday rotation

Essential Functions
The role involves critical procedural aspects under pharmacist supervision, including:
- Ensuring compliance with pharmacy technician trainee licensure.
- Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program
can be completed within one year. - Submitting coursework and licensure application upon program completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing medication orders
- Receiving prescriptions
- Completing billing paperwork
- Stocking and delivering medications to patients
- Engaging with patients, pharmacists, students, staff, and stakeholders
Expectations:
- Communicate effectively
- Follow laws, regulations, and best practices
- Deliver team-focused, detail-oriented care
- Seek pharmacist verification for all complex tasks
Requirements
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum age: 17 years old
- Enrollment in an approved pharmacy technician training program as per state guidelines
Jurisdiction-Specific Licensure Requirements
- Utah: Apply for Pharmacy Technician Trainee License within 4 weeks and secure within 8 weeks
- Colorado: Apply for provisional pharmacy technician registration
- Montana: Apply for a provisional pharmacy technician trainee license
- Idaho: No training license requirement (standard registration applies)
- Nevada: Apply for Pharmacy Technician Trainee License

- Proficiency in basic computer operations
- Exceptional attention to detail required

- Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours
- Hourly Rate Range: $18.40 per hour (based on experience)
Remuneration Structure
(Note: Actual hourly rate dependent on experience.)
- Compensation paid for on-the-job practical experience
- Didactic coursework (outside of working hours) is unpaid
