Peer Reviewer (Academic Journal) – Long-Term Remote Role
This is a long-term, stable part-time position supporting remote work. Please review the requirements carefully before applying.
About the Role
This position involves independent peer review for scholarly manuscripts within an academic journal. You’ll provide key critical assessments to ensure high standards of research integrity, quality, and originality.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- A Doctorate (PhD) or equivalent advanced degree in the relevant subject area.
- Published at least 5 peer-reviewed papers in SCI/SSCI journals within the last three years.
- A thorough understanding of:
- Research methodologies and their ethical principles.
- Current standards in the academic field.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Outstanding written communication, able to provide:
- Clear, concise, and constructive feedback.
- Detailed, objective critiques.
- Discipline in meeting deadlines and managing workload efficiently.
- Strong commitment to:
- Confidentiality of manuscript content.
- Objectivity in evaluation.

Desirable Experience
- Prior experience as a peer reviewer for academic journals.
- Familiarity with online manuscript submission/review systems (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager).
Key Responsibilities
Your role will include:

Assessing Novelty
- Determine if the manuscript presents truly original contributions to the field.
- Evaluate whether the work’s insights significantly advance knowledge.

Evaluating Study Design & Methodology
- Review the rigour of the research design and methods.
- Ensure claims are reproducible and methods are appropriate.

Literature Review Check
- Verify the manuscript integrates current, relevant research in the field.
- Confirm citations are up-to-date and comprehensive.

Analysing Results & Conclusions
- Check whether data presentation is clear, accurate, and appropriate.
- Assess if conclusions are well-supported and justified by the results.

Providing Constructive Feedback
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of the submission.
- Suggest improvements to enhance clarity or quality.
- Flag ethical concerns or potential methodological issues.

Supporting Editorial Decisions
- Based on your expert evaluation, the journal editor will decide whether the manuscript is:
- Accepted as published.
- Revised with specified corrections.
- Rejected due to inadequacies.
