PHD Peer Review – Physical Geography

Peer Reviewer (Part-Time, Remote) – Long-Term Position

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in the relevant subject area
  • Publications: Published at least 5 papers in SCI/SSCI journals within the past three years
  • Methodological knowledge: Thorough understanding of research methodologies and ethical principles in your discipline
  • Analytical & Critical Thinking: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Communication: Excellent written communication with the ability to provide clear, concise, and constructive feedback
  • Time Management: Ability to adhere to deadlines and manage time effectively
  • Confidentiality & Objectivity: Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and objectivity in evaluations

  • Prior experience as a peer reviewer for academic journals
  • Familiarity with online manuscript submission and review systems

Key Responsibilities

Your primary duties will include:

  • Assess Novelty

    • Evaluate whether the manuscript presents original research and adds new knowledge or insights to the field.
  • Evaluate Study Design & Methodology

    • Review whether the study design and methods are appropriate, comprehensive, and clearly described to ensure reproducibility.

  • Literature Review Assessment

    • Ensure the manuscript thoroughly incorporates and cites relevant, up-to-date research in the field.
  • Analyse Results & Conclusions

    • Determine if results are presented clearly and appropriately.
    • Assess whether conclusions are supported by the data and hold significance for the field.
  • Provide Constructive Feedback

    • Suggest improvements and highlight any flaws, omissions, or ethical concerns.
  • Recommend Publication Status

    • Provide recommendations (accept, revise, or reject) based on your evaluation—the final decision will be made by the journal editor.
