Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Graduate Trainee

Graduate Trainee – Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement

Contract: Full-time, 35 hours per week Salary: £25,804 per annum (Girton Single Spine Point 26)

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Graduate Trainee to join our Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Department (Development and Alumni Relations) as an ideal first stepping stone into their career. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop transferable skills while contributing meaningfully to the future of Girton College.

Key Responsibilities

As a Graduate Trainee, you will:

  • Provide operational and administrative support across the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Office, ensuring all areas of activity run smoothly.
  • Gain hands-on experience in a broad range of functions, including:
    • Fundraising and donor relations
    • Alumni relations and engagement
    • Communications (both digital and written)
    • Database management (CRM systems)
    • Event management (planning, logistics, and execution)
    • Gift administration (leveraging IT systems to process donations)
    • General administrative duties and wider Departmental support
  • Contribute to discrete projects and ongoing tasks, with ownership of:
    • Leading specific events
    • Database enrichment (ensuring records are up to date and accurate)
  • Collaborate closely with a small, friendly team of experienced colleagues who will provide full training to ensure a seamless and supportive transition into their role.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate with a keen interest in philanthropy, alumni engagement, or administrative roles in a Boston-style higher education setting
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Proactive attitude and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail – especially when managing sensitive donor information
  • Access to a dependable vehicle recommended as travel outside of Cambridge will often be required
