Philanthropy Manager

Philanthropy Manager – Charity

Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be supporting a fantastic charity to help recruit a Philanthropy Manager.

This role will manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals and mid-level donors, leading on the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of relationships to grow philanthropy income and strengthen its major donor programme. Working closely with the Senior Management Team, the post holder will develop tailored, insight-led engagement strategies aligned to organisational priorities. The role will also champion the use of data and insight to enhance donor engagement and ensure a high-quality supporter experience that increases long-term impact.


Key Details

  • Salary: Circa £45,000 per annum
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Location: London
  • Working pattern: Hybrid, 2–3 days per week in the office
  • Closing date: Successfully reviewing applications on a rolling basis

  • Develop sustainable income streams from major donors, mid-level donors, and wider individual giving.
  • Recruit and secure major gifts, establishing long-term, high-quality relationships with high-net-worth individuals and other key supporters.
  • Identify and qualify new prospects through research into:
    • Philanthropic interests
    • Wealth indicators
    • Networks
    • Propensity to give
  • Lead on the management of the prospect pool, pipeline, workflows, and income forecasts, producing regular reports on:
    • Progress
    • Performance
  • Lead on the design and delivery of bespoke cultivation events for donors and prospects, collaborating across teams.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • In securing donations from high-net-worth individuals and mid-level donors.
  • In building and stewarding long-term donor relationships.
  • In conducting high-quality donor and prospect research—including evaluating:
    • Philanthropic interests
    • Wealth indicators
    • Giving propensity
  • In network and relationship mapping to identify, cultivate, and secure philanthropic support.

Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience representing an organisation to funders and prospective supporters in both formal and informal settings.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to:
    • Use existing data
    • Identify opportunities for improved insight.
