Phlebotomist

About the Role
Applications are welcome from enthusiastic experienced Phlebotomists or unqualified individuals willing to undertake training to become a Phlebotomist.
You will join our forward-thinking, friendly and proactive team, delivering high-quality, compassionate care to Dorset County Hospital Foundation Trust (DCHFT) patients.
We are seeking self-motivated, hardworking, team-oriented individuals with:
- Good manual dexterity
- Excellent communication skills
- Flexibility to support services across Dorset County Hospital
The role is based at Dorset County Hospital, spanning multiple departments:
- Wards
- Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department
- Paediatric Clinics
- Outpatients Clinics (including South West House and Weymouth Hospital)
The service operates 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with staff rostered for weekends and bank holidays. While experience in venepuncture and cannulation is advantageous, full training and support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
To safely and efficiently:
- Perform venepuncture on all patients requiring blood tests at DCHFT
- Conduct cannulation as required
- Prepare patients for procedures, ensuring they have the opportunity to address concerns and individual needs

Further duties include:
- Observing and reporting side effects or incidents during procedures (affecting patients or staff)
- Contributing to the daily efficiency of the phlebotomy service
- Adhering to Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
- Building trust and positive relationships with patients while maintaining a strong public image of phlebotomy
- Providing an efficient, high-quality service to all patients and users
