Phlebotomist - ACT Pathology

Phlebotomist – Technical Officer Level 1 (PN 50887) Employment Type: Part Time (25 Hours Per Week), Permanent Location: Canberra Health Services, ACT Pathology Salary: $74,490 – $75,529 per annum (Plus 12.5% super) Closing Date: 16th July 2026

About the Role

As a Phlebotomist within Customer Services, ACT Pathology, you’ll play a critical role in connecting patients, clinicians, and pathology services. Your duties will include:

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect pathology samples across multiple sites:
    • Canberra Hospital
    • North Canberra Hospital
    • National Capital Private Hospital
    • Community-based outpatient centres
    • Home collection service for vulnerable patients
  • Provide customer service at reception (data entry, filing, payroll tasks).
  • Maintain inventory and equipment/ specimens, including cryopreservation.
  • Act as a liaison between patients/visitors and clinicians, ensuring efficient communication.
  • Adhere to work health and safety protocols, including Manual Task Risk Management and Infection Prevention Control.

This role operates Mon–Sun (including public holidays) across a 7am–5:30pm schedule, though part-time hours (5h/day over 5 days/week) are flexible.


Person Specifications

  • Proven experience as a Phlebotomist (registration with relevant governing body).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally (verbal + written).
  • Commitment to:
    • Exceptional customer service
    • Adherence to legislation, procedures, and ethical standards
    • Flexible, team-based work (multi-site availability required)
  • Ability to adapt to diverse patient needs, including crisis or challenging presentations.
