About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Laravel developer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex, large-scale systems that serve millions of users across the UK. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our core platform, contributing to architecture improvements, performance optimization, and the delivery of new features. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys tackling challenging technical problems, building reliable and scalable software, and making a genuine difference within a fast-paced environment. You will work closely with senior engineers and leadership to shape the future of our platform, ensuring it remains robust, efficient, and innovative.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with a focus on backend development. Essential qualifications include at least 2 years of commercial experience working with Laravel and a minimum of 5 years working with modern backend frameworks. You should have a solid understanding of SQL, including database design and indexing, and experience working with large datasets or high-volume applications. Proven experience in integrating third-party APIs such as Stripe, Google, AWS, or OpenAI is required. A good grasp of backend concepts like caching, queues, and asynchronous processing is essential. Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills are also necessary to thrive in this role. A passion for continuous learning and a proactive attitude towards tackling technical challenges will set you apart.

Responsibilities
- Modernize and enhance our Laravel platform to improve performance and scalability.
- Develop scalable backend services and APIs to support high-volume operations.
- Optimize SQL queries and design efficient database structures and indexes for large datasets.
- Build AI-powered background services and internal tooling to streamline operations.
- Integrate with external services such as Stripe, AWS, Google, and OpenAI to extend platform capabilities.
- Improve caching strategies, queues, and asynchronous processing to enhance system responsiveness.
- Develop internal applications to support various teams across the organization.
- Enhance application performance, reliability, and scalability through continuous improvements.
- Contribute to our ongoing migration to AWS cloud infrastructure.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that meet business needs.
