About The Role
We are seeking an experienced PHP Developer to join INTEC SELECT LIMITED's dynamic internal technology team in Basingstoke. This role offers a hybrid working model, requiring only one day onsite per week, providing flexibility while maintaining close collaboration with the team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting the development and enhancement of critical CRM applications that underpin our business operations. Working within a cross-functional Scrum team, you will be responsible for delivering new features, improving existing systems, and supporting the ongoing evolution of our applications to adapt to changing business requirements. This position provides an excellent opportunity for a skilled PHP Developer to thrive in an Agile environment, working alongside talented developers, QA specialists, Business Analysts, and DevOps professionals to deliver high-quality software solutions that drive business success.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of three years of commercial experience in PHP development, demonstrating a strong technical foundation and a passion for coding excellence. Proficiency in PHP 7.4, particularly with CakePHP, and PHP 8+ with frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony is essential. Candidates should have a solid understanding of building backend systems and APIs, with a proven track record of delivering end-to-end features. Expertise in MySQL, including query optimization and performance tuning, is required. Familiarity with JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS is also necessary to support frontend integration. Experience with version control systems like Git, including branching workflows and pull requests, is expected. Knowledge of Docker, Linux/WSL environments, and automated testing practices will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a good understanding of software design principles, coding standards, and best practices. Exposure to Vue.js/Nuxt, Azure cloud services, CI/CD pipelines, messaging technologies, or microservices architecture will be considered a plus.
Responsibilities
The PHP Developer will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust backend systems using PHP frameworks such as Laravel and CakePHP. Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering features from conception through testing and deployment
- Ensuring high-quality code and adherence to best practices
- Enhancing legacy systems, particularly CakePHP applications
- Building scalable APIs and backend services to support business operations
- Writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code
- Participating in code reviews, automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes
- Supporting system design, integration efforts, and technical improvements to optimize performance, scalability, and reduce technical debt
- Collaboration with other technology teams to identify opportunities for process improvements and technical innovation
