About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Laravel Developer to join our engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and impactful projects that directly influence millions of users across the UK. As part of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, APIs, and internal tools that support our marketplace operations.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys tackling challenging technical problems, optimizing system performance, and building reliable software at scale. You will have the chance to modernize our existing Laravel platform, enhance architecture, and contribute to our ongoing AWS migration. Your work will be integral to improving application performance, reliability, and scalability, ensuring our platform remains robust and efficient as we expand our services.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years' professional experience working with Laravel framework.
- At least 5 years of experience with modern backend frameworks and technologies.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, including database design, indexing, and query optimization.
- Experience working with large datasets or high-volume applications.
- Proven track record of integrating third-party APIs such as Stripe, AWS, Google, OpenAI, or similar services.
- Solid understanding of backend concepts including caching, queues, and asynchronous processing.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with both technical and non-technical team members.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS, is highly desirable.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Laravel and PHP 8+.
- Optimize SQL queries and design efficient database schemas to handle large datasets.
- Implement and improve caching strategies, queues, and asynchronous processing to enhance system performance.
- Contribute to the modernization of our Laravel platform and support ongoing AWS migration efforts.
- Build AI-powered background services and internal tooling to streamline operations.
- Integrate with third-party services such as Stripe, AWS, Google, and OpenAI.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop internal applications supporting various business units.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, bugs, and reliability issues.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and best practices to continuously improve our platform.
