**Physical Health & Wellbeing Coach – St Mary’s Hospital, Warrington

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Physical Health & Wellbeing Coach to deliver a comprehensive, education-driven fitness and healthy lifestyle programme at St Mary’s Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact recovery through tailored exercise and wellbeing support.

About the Role

You’ll work with individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and/or mental health disorders, helping them improve fitness, confidence, and sustainable health outcomes through personalised, evidence-based programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering 1:1 and group sessions, including gym, team sports, swimming, and community-based activities
  • Designing safe, personalised exercise and lifestyle education plans
  • Supporting patients in nutritional awareness and recovery goals
  • Monitoring progress, reporting outcomes, and contributing to Care Programme Approach (CPA) reviews
  • Ensuring health, safety, and equipment compliance in a clinically rélevant environment

This role goes beyond fitness—it’s about changing lives with movement, motivation, and meaningful connection in a multidisciplinary team.


Your Responsibilities

Key Duties

Fitness Delivery & Programme Management

  • Provide person-centred, evidence-based interventions for recovery and long-term wellbeing
  • Lead tailored 1:1 and group sessions, including:
    • Gym-based conditioning
    • Team sports & ground-based activities
    • Swim sessions
    • Community-oriented health education programmes
  • Develop safe, adaptable exercise plans based on individual ability, risk, and progress
  • Educate patients on fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle management

Support & Monitoring

  • Motivate and empower patients to achieve realistic, sustainable health goals
  • Track progress, maintain records, and produce CPA-aligned reports
  • Work closely with nursing teams, Practice Nurse, Lead Nurse, and multidisciplinary professionals

Safeguarding & Operational Responsibilities

  • Maintain safe environments and ensures equipment integrity
  • Contribute to case reviews, care planning, and service development

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience

✅ Must hold a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification (or equivalent) and ✅ A relevant coaching certification (e.g., sports coaching) ✅ Full UK driving licence ✅ Level 2 Gym Instructor and Pool Management certification (preferred, but advantageous)

Professional Knowledge

Your expertise must include:

  • Complex patient needs, particularly those in forensic or mental health environments
  • Care Programme Approach (CPA) principles
  • Mental health legislation and safeguarding practices
  • Health, safety, and security protocols in clinical/rehab settings

Soft Skills & Attributes

  • Exceptional communication skills, paired with a compassionate and resilient approach
  • Ability to adapt programmes dynamically based on individual progress and challenges
  • Strong collaborative and organisational skills
  • Experience working effectively in multidisciplinary teams

Beneficial (but not essential)

  • Experience in mental health, forensic, or forensic support settings
  • Background in clinical rehabilitation or residential therapy
  • Prior leadership or supervision in a health/fitness context

Where You’ll Work

You’ll be based at St Mary’s Hospital, Warrington, a specialist mental health and ABI rehabilitation service for adult men.
