Job Title: Physical Health & Wellbeing Coach
We are seeking a passionate and motivated Physical Health & Wellbeing Coach to deliver a comprehensive, educational fitness and healthy lifestyle programme at St Mary’s. Be the difference in someone’s recovery.
Core Requirements
To apply for this role, you’ll need:
- A Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification (or equivalent)
- A relevant sports coaching qualification
- A full UK driving licence
- A Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification and Pool Management certification would be advantageous
The role involves working with individuals with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) and/or mental health disorders. You’ll support patients with complex physical and psychological needs to improve their fitness, build confidence, and achieve sustainable health outcomes.
Key Skills Needed
- Strong understanding of complex or forensic patient needs
- Knowledge of the Care Programme Approach (CPA), mental health legislation, and health, safety, and security practices
- Ability to plan, deliver, and evaluate effective programmes with a combination of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a compassionate, resilient approach

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Duties
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering person-centred, evidence-based fitness interventions supporting recovery and long-term wellbeing.
- Tailoring 1:1 and group fitness sessions to patient needs.
- Designing safe, personalised exercise and healthy lifestyle programmes and adapting them according to individual progress, risks, and abilities.
- Educating patients on fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle management.
- Motivating and empowering patients to achieve realistic, sustainable goals.
- Monitoring, tracking progress, and producing reports aligned with CPA and service standards.
- Delivering a varied programme including:
- Gym-based sessions
- Team sports and ground-based activities
- Swimming sessions
- Healthy lifestyle and community-based groups
- Working closely with the Practice Nurse, Lead Nurse, and wider Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
- Ensuring safety and equipment fitness for use, maintaining a secure environment.
- Contributing to case reviews, care planning, and service development.

Experience & Qualities
Qualities We Look For:
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and collaborate with external agencies.
- Confidence working with individuals with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
- Strong organisational skills, including caseload and time management.
- Experience with group and one-to-one sessions.
Where You’d Use These Qualities:
This role, based at St Mary’s Hospital, Warrington, supports individuals with complex needs in a specialist mental health and ABI rehabilitation service for adult men. You’ll play a pivotal role in fostering recovery, independence, and transitions to community life in a safe and recovery-focused environment.
