Physical Security Advisor (SC Cleared) – Contract
Location: You will cover the north region: Darlington, Manchester, Sheffield.
Hybrid role: 3 days in office.
Day Rate: £550 per day
Contract Length: 6 Months (initial)
Clearance: Active SC Clearance Required
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP
We are supporting a major government organisation undergoing significant transformation across its national property portfolio. They are seeking an experienced Physical Security Advisor to provide expert physical security guidance, conduct site-based security assessments, and support the protection of critical government assets and infrastructure across multiple UK locations.
This role requires regular travel throughout the UK and would suit candidates with strong experience in physical security, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and security governance within complex operational environments.
The Role
As a Physical Security Advisor, you will provide specialist advice to identify, assess and mitigate physical security risks across a diverse estate. You will work closely with stakeholders, operational teams, suppliers and client departments to ensure security measures remain proportionate, effective and aligned with evolving threats and business requirements.
You will also play a key role in maintaining operational readiness, supporting security incident management, and driving continuous improvement across security processes and controls.
Key Responsibilities
Physical Security Advisory
- Provide expert physical security advice and recommendations to stakeholders.
- Identify emerging threats and vulnerabilities affecting sites and operations.
- Support the development of Operational Requirements (ORs) to inform security postures.
- Promote security awareness and a positive security culture across stakeholders and supply chain partners.

Security Risk Assessment
- Lead Threat and Vulnerability Assessments (TVAs).
- Conduct site security reviews and assessments.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing security controls and recommend improvements.
- Maintain and support mitigation activities within security risk registers.
- Manage site security asset registers and physical security infrastructure records.
- Monitor and manage security-related work orders and equipment deficiencies.
Security Governance & Compliance
- Develop and maintain site security procedures and documentation.
- Produce Site Security Management Plans (SSMPs).
- Ensure alignment with organisational security policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Provide security input into new projects and operational changes.
- Advise stakeholders on residual risks and appropriate mitigation strategies.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead post-incident reviews and lessons-learned activities.
- Produce formal security reports and recommendations.
- Analyse security incidents and trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support audit, assurance and testing activities.
- Review supplier performance and security delivery effectiveness.
Security Innovation & Development
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats, technologies and national security guidance.
- Assess the impact of new technologies and security practices.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of physical security capability.

Essential Experience
- Active SC Clearance.
- Proven experience conducting physical security assessments and risk reviews.
- Strong understanding of physical security controls and risk mitigation methodologies.
- Experience working within multi-client or complex operational environments.
- Ability to interpret business requirements and provide practical security solutions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to utilise management information to support decision-making.
- Experience working collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing relationships with clients, contractors and suppliers.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Demonstrable commitment to continuous professional development.
- Membership of a recognised security professional body (e.g. The Security Institute, ASIS, CSyP or equivalent).
- Relevant security qualifications.

You will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider security function while maintaining a strong focus on operational effectiveness and continual improvement.
