Physical Security Consultant

Physical Security Consultant — Datacentre

Independent by design.

Location: London (hybrid) • Travel: UK and Europe, occasionally wider EMEA • Reports to: Technical Director — Security

About Blacktip

Blacktip is an independent consultancy of around sixty specialists who design the security and telecoms infrastructure within Europe’s largest datacentres—and the backup power systems (grid, substation and battery assets) that power them. We also procure, assure, and commission these assets throughout their lifecycle.

Their clients include datacentre owners, developers, hyperscalers, and design practitioners leads on mission-critical and hyperscale projects. Unlike some firms, Blacktip never advises vendors, contractors, or integrators, ensuring all recommendations are unbiased and client-focused.

Blacktip’s legacy lies in deep-specialist design expertise—specialising solely in security and telecoms, aspects other consultancies treat as subsidiary tasks. Their two core areas are led by practice directors, with rapid decision-making and a culture where designs directly translate into built outcomes. As the firm expands its scope to include procurement, commissioning, and advisory services, they welcome consultants who see opportunities for growth.

The Role

You’ll lead physical security for high-impact datacentre and mission-critical projects, handling detailed designs, specifications, cost estimates, equipment schedules, and onsite support through to handover. This includes aligning designs to RIBA project stages and meeting the stringent standards of their clients.

Your responsibilities will span the entire electronic security stack, including:

  • Video surveillance (VSS/CCTV and video analytics)
  • Access control & intruder detection (PIDS)
  • IP audio/video intercoms
  • Security command centres (control rooms)
  • Physical Security Information Management (PSIM)

Security designs must accommodate unique datacentre demands, such as high-availability layouts, comprehensive perimeter surveillance, multi-tiered access controls, and seamless integration with telecoms and wider building-tech infrastructure.

Your work will intersect closely with ** architects, telecoms specialists, and production teams** to ensure deliverables are cohesive, build-ready, and meet security compliance. You’ll represent Blacktip in client workshops, design reviews, and tenders.

Collaboratively, you’ll assist the Technical Director—Security in maintaining high design standards and actively develop client relationships. This includes securing repeat engagements, defining contract extensions, and identifying new opportunities within key accounts.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
