We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 to join our Inpatient Stroke Team based at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (YYF). The successful candidate will support the delivery of physiotherapy for sub-acute and rehabilitation patients across the pathway. The post holder will also support the management of patients with other neurological conditions as required.
Although based at YYF the post holder will occasionally be required to work on the Hyper-Acute Stroke Unit at the Grange University Hospital.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a forward-thinking clinician with the skills to combine specialist clinical practice with innovation. You will be committed to following best practice and speciality guidelines with the promotion of high-quality physiotherapy services. The successful post holder needs to be flexible, motivated, and committed to put the patient’s strengths, voice, choice and control at the centre of any interventions. You will have demonstrable leadership qualities, excellent communication and time management skills with proven abilities to build networks across sites and disciplines.
You will work alongside clinical specialists and the Clinical Lead physiotherapist to develop your skills, knowledge and experience across the four pillars of practice.
The successful applicant will be actively involved in the education, supervision and mentoring of more junior staff and physiotherapy undergraduate students.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
- Ability to adapt to changes in work routine
- The physical ability to perform and manage all aspects of manual handling demanded by the role

Experience
Essential criteria
- Broad range of post graduate clinical experience
- Has undertaken a rotation within Stroke /Neuro rehabilitation
- Experience of participating in and delivering IST programmes
Desirable criteria
- Worked in UK as HCPC registered PT
- Evidence of working unsupervised
- Participated in on-call and 7 day working where appropriate
- Previous band 6 position
- Experience of participation in or contributing to service development projects
Qualifications And Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Degree/diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registered
- Specialist training and or experience in stroke/ neuro rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
- Completion of Clinical Educators Course or Equivalent
- Appropriate range of postgraduate clinical education
- MCSP

- Ability to discuss the clinical reasoning process in the management of routine cases
- The ability to identify and act upon adverse clinical signs
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Evidence of initiative and time management
- Awareness and ability to be understand clinical governance
- Has an understanding of the challenges facing the NHS
- Evidence of CPD
- Ability to demonstrate critical appraisal skills
- Commitment to participating in clinical and organisational audit
- Good verbal and written communication skills when interacting with the MDT, clients and their families
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of relevant national and local clinical guidelines
- Commitment to research
- Commitment to teaching at an undergraduate and postgraduate level
- IT Literate
- Ability to speak Welsh
