Physiotherapy Head of Service (Band 8A)
Hospital Paediatric and Neonates within Women & Children’s Directorate
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHS GGC) are looking to appoint a Band 8a Paediatric Physiotherapy Service Lead for the Acute Physiotherapy Service at the Royal Hospital for Children.
About the Role
The post holder reports to the Clinical Service Manager and is responsible for:
- Staff management, including recruitment, appraisal, career development, discipline, policy oversight, health & safety, and management of budgets and physical resources.
- Complaints handling and liaison with external agencies as needed.
- Contributing to the strategic direction, clinical leadership, and coordination of physiotherapy services at RHC (Royal Hospital for Children).
- Supporting the strategic planning, analysis/interpretation, and implementation of general, professional, and national policies to enhance the paediatric service.
The Physiotherapy Service Lead will also hold a highly specialist clinical caseload within their area of expertise (approx. 0.4 WTE).

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure quality, safe, and effective physiotherapy services for patients.
- Act as a clinical leader within paediatric and neonate physiotherapy.
- Oversee service development, performance improvement, and quality assurance.
- Maintain governance and compliance with NHS guidelines and regulatory bodies.
- Represent the service in multidisciplinary forums and partnership discussions.
Essential Requirements
- Valid HCPC registration (mandatory).
- Substantial experience as a paediatric physiotherapist (preferably within NHS settings).
- Demonstrable administrative and leadership experience, including staff supervision and budget management.
- Strong knowledge of clinical governance and quality improvement frameworks.
