Pipe Layer – Utility Crew

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Pipe Layer to join our 4-person utility crew. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience installing underground utilities and setting structures to grade. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and effectively as part of a team in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in teamwork, has excellent communications skills, and is ready to contribute to a productive and safety-focused job site.

Responsibilities

  • Install storm, sanitary, and water piping systems according to grade and specifications.
  • Set concrete structures such as manholes, inlets, and catch basins accurately.
  • Assist in setting up and using laser levels and pipe lasers for line and grade.
  • Communicate effectively with the topman and equipment operator to ensure safe and precise pipe installation.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; ensure all safety standards are followed.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Lift and carry heavy materials and tools (50+ pounds).
  • Perform additional tasks and support other crew members as needed.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a pipe layer or in underground utility installation.
  • Strong understanding of pipe grades, alignment, and trench safety.
  • Experience operating or assisting with laser and grade equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and specifications.
  • Must be dependable/hardworking and possess excellent teamwork/communication skills.
  • Willingness to work long hours and some weekends when necessary.
  • Dependable transportation to and from the job site.
  • A positive attitude and a team player.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly.
  • Work in standing, kneeling, or crouched positions for extended periods.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
