Location: South West / North Devon Employment type: Long-term PAYE opportunity Industry: Marine, defence and heavy engineering

Pay and Allowances

  • Hourly rate: £24.88 PAYE
  • Overtime: £37.32 per hour (after 40 hours/week)
  • Night shift: £33.09 per hour
  • Weekly travel and lodge allowance: £400

Estimated Gross Weekly Earnings

  • 45-hour day shift: £1,581.80
  • 67-hour day shift: £2,402.84
  • 45-hour night shift: £1,910.20
  • 67-hour night shift: £2,731.24

Weekly estimates include the £400 travel and lodge allowance.


We are looking to recruit experienced Pipefitters for long-term engineering projects in the South West.

This role suits candidates with experience in:

  • Marine, defence, dockyard, shipbuilding, ship repair, industrial pipework or heavy engineering environments

The South West has a strong long-term marine and defence engineering market, including modern activity at Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth.

Key Duties

  • Fabricating, assembling, and installing pipework systems
  • Working from piping isometrics, engineering drawings, and specifications
  • Measuring, cutting, preparing, and fitting pipe and associated components
  • Installing valves, flanges, supports, brackets, and pipe fittings
  • Carrying out pipe alignment and fit-up before welding
  • Bolting and torquing mechanical joints and flange connections
  • Supporting pressure and leak testing, plus system commissioning
  • Identifying and correcting alignment or installation issues
  • Collaborating with welders, mechanical fitters, and production teams
  • Adhering to site safety, quality, and permit procedures

Experience Required

  • Strong pipefitting experience in relevant industries
  • Experience with:
    • Reading and interpreting piping isometrics and engineering drawings
    • Fabricating and installing carbon steel or stainless-steel pipework
    • Working with valves, flanges, supports, and mechanical joints
    • Flange management or ensuring mechanical joint integrity is beneficial
  • Relevant qualification (apprenticeship, NVQ, or equivalent) is advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team
