- Commissioning Verification Engineers (freelance/permanent)
- Commissioning Managers (freelance/permanent)
These roles are critical to ensuring that building services systems—design, installation, commissioning, and operation—are executed correctly, safely, and compliant with standards.
Role Overview
For Commissioning Verification Engineers
Ensure projects are delivered to qualitative and time-based commitments:
- Review and attend commissioning activities
- Validate commissioning results against project specifications
- Inspect systems to assess performance and compliance
- Conduct technical surveys and inspections
- Provide technical guidance on commissioning strategies, programmes, and scopes
- Oversee documentation, quality processes, and compliance
- Manage stakeholder expectations and act as key contact for clients/contractors
- Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation
- Maintain technical governance and robust reporting

- Direct multidisciplinary commissioning efforts (engineers, contractors, project teams)
- Develop comprehensive commissioning plans, strategies, and programmes
- Coordinate teams, ensure alignment with project objectives
- Oversee documentation, compliance, and quality processes
- Manage stakeholders and mitigate risks
- Drive progress, performance tracking, and reporting
Shared Responsibilities (All Roles)
- Collaborate to improve systems, processes, and ways of working
- Champion technical expertise in a specialty area
- Represent HDR through marketing and client-facing activities
Key Responsibilities
Host Tasks
- Work safely in compliance with HDR health and safety policies
- Maintain diligent efficiency and professionalism
- Ensure technical accuracy and high-quality deliverables
- Partner with contractors to align commissioning strategies with project needs
- Adhere to HDR’s project and internal management systems
Operational Duties
- Maintain financial awareness; manage project expenditure
- Attend internal/external meetings as required
- Draft technical/commercial/programming reports
- Develop and review commissioning documents (methods, test scripts, manuals)
- Identify and report scope changes to stakeholders
- Guide multidisciplinary teams on progress and challenges
- Ensure timely test equipment availability
General Responsibilities
- Support tender submissions
- Submit accurate timesheets weekly
- Proactively assist colleagues across the business

Qualifications
Preferred Skills
✅ Engineering degree (civil, environmental, or LEED® accreditation) ✅ Strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, or controls engineering ✅ 4+ years’ MEP/hydraulics/VCC (Variable Volume Control)/Systems experience
For Commissioning Managers
✅ Demonstrable experience leading full-scale commissioning on large projects
Required Qualifications
- Willingness to travel to site-based locations (based on HDR’s operational needs)
- Certified engineer (PE) or experienced field technologist with deep MEP/HVAC/excavation expertise
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel/Word/Project/Outlook)
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Deep understanding of design processes, project accounting, contracting, and commercial operations
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple concurrent tasks
