at WSP

We unlock a world of possibility at WSP. A place where you can forge a career aligned with your ambitions, where your ideas drive change, and where you thrive in a culture that celebrates curiosity and diversity. Joining us means contributing to landmark projects, shaping solutions for a cleaner, greener, safer future, and building a legacy as unique as you.

About the Role

Our Energy Transition Team is seeking a Pipeline Engineer to drive innovation and design excellence across diverse energy projects. This is a diverse role designed to apply your expertise to transmission projects, including natural gas (below and above 7 bar), hydrogen, and carbon dioxide pipelines. As part of this dynamic team, you’ll lead the development of mechanical designs, collaborating with stakeholders from inception through to construction and decommissioning—enabling an end-to-end pipeline and Above Ground Installations (AGI) lifecycle.

WSP supports our clients through all project stages, from feasibility studies and concept designs to FEED studies and advanced engineering. Our networks—spanning thermal generation, low-zero carbon technologies, and future fuels)—ensure you’re always working at the forefront of industry challenges.

You’ll work alongside private developers, power utilities, industry regulators, and contractors to deliver projects with precision, creativity, and long-lasting sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Leadership: Lead the creation of cost-effective, efficient, and innovative mechanical designs for pipelines across multiple project stages (feasibility, concept, FEED, value engineering, and detailed design).
  • Cross-Stage Collaboration: Engage in project development, construction, and commissioning, with opportunities for onsite involvement.
  • Pipeline Engineering: Deliver specialised outputs, including:
    • Pipeline wall thickness calculations and piping specifications
    • Routing and population studies, as well as high-pressure diversion design
  • Multi-Disciplinary Teamwork: Collaborate with internals stakeholders (thermal engineers, mechanical, civic) to develop design layouts and 3D models.
  • Commercial Avant-Garde: Contribute to proposals, bids, and client bids for pipeline and AGI deliverables.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoot operational and integrity issues, applying subject matter expertise to complex problems.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Support broader pipeline programme strategic goals through participation in team planning and continuous improvement.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree in engineering (or equivalent professional recognition) within a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, process, or general engineering).
  • Relevant experience in pipeline or AGI design, with a track record of delivering pipeline deliverables.
  • Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (e.g., IGEM/TD/1 and TD/13), including gas network operators' addendums.
  • CSubstantial experience in a multi-disciplinary team, particularly concerning pipeline design, FEED engineering, or 3D model coordination.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk software suite (especially AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Navisworks, and BIM360), and MS Office for developing specs, reports, schedules.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
