About The Role
Job Title: Planner (Production Order) Department: Supply Chain & Commercial Services (Planning) Location: Steelpark, Wolverhampton (WV11) Salary: £25,000 – £30,000 (depending on experience) Closing Date: Thursday 2nd July 2026

We are seeking a highly analytical and detail-driven Planner (Production Order) to support production planning and fulfilment across Tata Steel Distribution UK & Ireland, ensuring seamless alignment between customer demand, operational capability, and resource optimisation. This is a critical operational role where you’ll transform demand into efficient production orders by:
- Maximising yield, productivity, and service levels
- Aligning capacity with resource constraints
- Managing materials and nesting operations
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives
Key Responsibilities
Production and Demand Alignment
- Convert customer and internal planning demand into production orders, using ESO (Engineered Standard Order) alignment tools where applicable.
- Allocate raw materials and nest finished goods efficiently to maximise yield and minimise waste.
- Raise and process weekly stock orders to support campaign planning, ensuring materials are available when needed.
Campaign and Capacity Planning
- Contribute to the creation and review of weekly campaign plans, coordinating with scheduling teams to optimise production.
- Collaborate with Campaign Planning to understand demand-versus-capability gaps, proactively modifying plans as required.
- Create Job Work Orders by nesting orders and allocating materials ensuring adherence to scheduled production cycles.
Resource Optimisation and Compliance
- Plan production activities to maximise yield, availability, and productivity while minimising costs.
- Manage short-term capacity constraints by adjusting planning schedules or reallocating resources.
- Align with Lean and Six Sigma principles to eliminate bottlenecks and areas of inefficiency.
Exception Handling andupport
- Identify and resolve planning exceptions, liaising with Inventory Coordinators, Supply Chain, and Production Schedule Planners.
- Conduct root cause analyses, supporting corrective action and continuous improvement efforts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Liaise with Commercial, Logistics, and Sales teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment and service excellence.
- Work closely with Customer Support Representatives (CSRs) to clarify demands and ensure alignment.
Performance and Accountability
- Monitor and report on cycle performance, yield rates, and productivity metrics.
- Advocate for, and assist in implementing operational excellence best practices.
Requirements and Skills
To excel in this role, you will have:
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or production planning functions.
- Strong understanding of capacity management, demand forecasting, and material allocation strategies.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly campaign planning tools (e.g., Stratix or similar).
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel for planning, Word/PPT for reporting).

- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and identify trends.
- Visual problem-solving mindset to tackle operational challenges in real-time.
- Attention to detail, able to manage nested planning requirements that support many customer orders.
- Clear communication, combining technical accuracy with impact when disseminating plans to stakeholders.
- Resilience in fast-paced environments, managing shifting priorities and maintaining efficiency.

- Ability to influence and coordinate across functions to resolve critical scheduling issues.
- Experience in collaborating cross-functionally to improve end-to-end supply chain and production workflows.
- Commitment to operational excellence, with an intrinsic motivation to improve standards and processes.
- Customer service orientation to align planning support with comprehensive customer expectations.
