Planning & Basket Wash Team Leader – Manufacturing Services

Location: West Bromwich

About Allied Bakeries & ABF

Allied Bakeries are part of Associated British Foods (ABF), a diversified international food, ingredients and retail group with £20.1bn in sales and 138,000 employees across 56 countries. ABF operates leading UK grocery brands, including Jordans, Ryvita, Pataks, Blue Dragon, Silver Spoon, Kingsmill, Allinson’s, and Sunblest, alongside bakery products such as loaves, pancakes, crumpets, and hot cross buns.

Our Grocery Service Centre (near Liverpool) supports multiple ABF brands through Shared Service functions like Customer Services, Consumer Care, Finance, Payroll, HR, and IT.

Role Overview

This key leadership position is responsible for Planning & Basket Wash within Manufacturing Services, ensuring:

  • Efficient, high-quality operations aligned with production demands

You’ll report directly to the Manufacturing Services Manager, leading cross-functional teams and ensuring high performance while supporting the wider manufacturing strategy.


Key Accountabilities

Safety & Compliance

  • Act as an ambassador for health and safety, fostering a safety-first culture across teams.
  • Ensure all operations meet regulatory and company standards for health, safety, and wellbeing.

Team Leadership & Performance

  • Plan and manage the Basket Wash and planning teams, ensuring service continuity, efficient labour resourcing, and cost-effective operations.
  • Set clear performance goals, targets, and expectations for all operatives.
  • Monitor daily operations to maintain quality, safety, and performance standards.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members to enhance engagement, accountability, and productivity.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee production planning to align with manufacturing schedules and customer demand, including freezer products.
  • Resolve service issues promptly, escalating to the correct forums when necessary.
  • Optimise articulated vehicle (Artic) loading/unloading to ensure efficiency and minimal delays in basket wash operations.
