Blue Diamond Recruitment are proud to be working on a rare and exciting opportunity which has arisen for an experienced Planning Director to join a reputable and growing business within the residential development sector.

Role Overview

Reporting to senior leadership, you will be responsible for developing and delivering the regional planning strategy, providing expert planning advice, and managing consultant teams to secure planning permissions across a diverse portfolio of projects.

This role offers the opportunity to oversee the planning process from initial site appraisal through to planning permission, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the regional planning strategy.
  • Identify planning opportunities across local authorities and key growth areas.
  • Advise land and development teams on planning matters and site opportunities.
  • Appoint, manage and coordinate external planning consultants and specialist advisors.
  • Lead planning applications from site appraisal through to planning approval.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local authorities and key stakeholders.
  • Attend planning meetings, consultations and industry events.
  • Provide strategic planning advice to senior management.
  • Carry out site visits to assess development opportunities.
  • Review planning conditions and support the resolution of planning issues.
  • Mentor and support junior members of the planning team where appropriate.
  • Ensure planning objectives align with wider commercial and business goals.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll ideally hold a relevant planning qualification and be a Chartered Member of the RTPI (or equivalent). You will have significant experience within the planning sector, gained in either the public or private sector, along with a strong understanding of the UK planning system. You'll have a proven track record of managing planning applications from initial site appraisal through to planning approval, supported by excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. The successful candidate will be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, have leadership or mentoring experience, possess a commercial mindset with the ability to identify planning opportunities.
