Planning Engineer
About This Role
Balfour Beatty are recruiting for a Planning Engineer to join our Power Transmission & Distribution team, based in the Elgin Office.
This position requires a minimum of 4 days per week office-based work.
Responsible for the updating and maintenance of all aspects of Power T&D OHL and Cabling projects in the P6 programme(s).
You will support the planning and monitoring of all project activities while ensuring weekly and monthly programme reports meet the project reporting schedule.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Planning Engineer, your key accountabilities include:
- Plan, structure, and lead the project programme of works
- Oversee project planning, structuring, and execution support
- Manage project interfaces, working closely with operational teams through meetings, programme reviews, and progress reporting
- Identify and address program dependencies and interface challenges between stakeholders
- Monitor risks and propose mitigation strategies while identifying opportunities and applying capture strategies
- Maintain a fully logically linked Primavera P6 project programme
- Ensure the project schedule remains resourced (for both plant and personnel) while being updated based on evolving execution strategies
- Coordinate closely with the project delivery team to regularly update the programme status
- Update and report project progress at regular intervals to the Regional Planning Manager and Project Manager
- Report on key resources, including staff, operatives, plant, equipment, supply chain, and other critical components

- Proven experience of Planning Tools like Primavera P6, particularly on Power Transmission projects
- Operational construction project management expertise in Primavera P6
- Working knowledge of Project Management methodologies
- Strong ability to capture real-time progress when collaborating with engineering/operational teams
- Familiarity with Earned Value Principles and reporting
- Capability to develop progress S Curves to assess project performance
Desirable
- Experience working in an NEC3 contract environment
- APMP or APM Practitioner Qualification
