Department: Land and Mineral Resources
Location: Breedon Head Office, Pinnacle House, Breedon on the Hill, Derbyshire
Description
Ready to lead on planning strategy and guide development from concept to operation? Join our Land & Mineral Resources team as a Planning Manager.
You’ll take ownership of ensuring compliance with existing planning permissions, while playing a central role in identifying, appraising and promoting opportunities—securing the consents needed to enhance our estate.
You’ll be a confident communicator, able to drive projects forward leading multi-disciplinary teams at every stage of the development process. You’ll provide practical, detailed advice both internally and externally, backed by a strong grasp of the plan-led system and a track record of promoting land for development and securing planning permissions.
This role will be based either at our Head Office in Breedon on the Hill, or our site in Raisby, so candidates should be within a commutable distance from one of these locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on site promotion and local plan consultations.
- Manage the dynamic nature of our estate to ensure compliance with extant planning permissions.
- Collaborate with our colleague’s business wide. Lead and support multi-disciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality planning, property, environmental and sustainability advice to internal stakeholders.
- Lead planning strategy for existing and new assets, from appraisal and local plan promotion through to permission and delivery, applying sound judgement and making clear, actionable recommendations.
- Engage proactively within the business, with industry, stakeholders and the community. Working with communications teams to fully explain and promote our operations and proposals.
- Procure planning and environmental support, manage and instruct technical teams and ensure consistency, including managing and maintaining budgets and reporting progress.
- Ensure compliance with legal, environmental and health & safety obligations across the mineral estate.
- Maximisation of returns on non-operational property including identifying surplus property for disposal.
- Maintain accurate GIS and estate records to support operational and strategic decision making.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
