Planning Officers (x 2)

Role Overview

Are you ready to shape places, influence high-quality development, and build a rewarding planning career in one of Devon’s most attractive districts?

We are seeking two enthusiastic Planning Officers to join our ambitious Development Management team in Teignbridge District Council.

  • 1 x Permanent role
  • 1 x Fixed-term contract (up to 24 months) to backfill a secondment position
  • Salary: £31,022 – £44,075 per annum (Career Grade, subject to 2026/27 pay review)
  • Hours: 37 hours per week*

About the Role

Planning Officers will:

  • Help deliver well-designed and sustainable development.
  • Protect and enhance Teignbridge’s built and natural environment.
  • Influence key decisions to make Teignbridge an even better place to live, work, and visit.
  • Offer pre-application advice, conduct site visits, and draft recommendations/reports.
  • Work as part of geographical area teams, actively responding to applications and supporting at Planning Committees/appeals.

Team & Environment

Teignbridge District Council limits office working to at least 50%, allowing remote work for the remainder. New hires start in-office for the first two months to integrate fully.

Essential Requirements

To excel in this role, you must meet the criteria below (though not all mandatory demands):

  • Degree/diploma in Town & Country Planning or relevant subject*.
  • Recent, relevant planning skills/knowledge in development management.
  • Background with a Local Planning Authority, ideally in a rural setting.
  • Active RTPI membership.
  • A full driving license (due to limited public transport availability).

__ We prioritise relevant experience but encourage diverse applicants (e.g., graduates, career switchers). Non-planners with adaptability and attitude are welcome.
