Planning Officer/Senior Planning Officer
Grade: £34,434 - £46,142 per annum (Career Grade) Hours: 37 hours per week Contract Type: Secondment/Fixed Term Contract (to 30.6.28 ) Location: Warwick District Council, Place, Arts and Economy – predominantly home-based with office attendance as required

The role involves managing and determining residential and commercial development applications, working with families, housing developers, and commercial interests in small and major towns and villages across Warwick District – the largest district in Warwickshire.

Main Responsibilities
- Determine planning applications, including allocations, determination notices, ecological and design advice, controlled and Listed Buildings Consent, and enforcement action.
- Provide professional planning advice at pre-application stage according to the Council’s strategies, ensuring development aligns with our objectives.
- Represent the Council before planning committees, at public appeals, and in formal mediation.
- Negotiate applications, liaising with stakeholders including neighbours, developers, and specialist bodies.
- Conduct planning-related inspections of sites in Warwick District and attend planning committee hearings as required.
- Support the co-ordination of planning policies including addition, preparation, maintenance, and review of documents as agreed by the Local Plan Team.

Given the complexity of work, the postholder is preferably appointed at Senior Planning Officer level. This role will involve:
- Advanced casework reviews
- Engaging with the public, developers, and professional specialists
- Policy and strategy reviews

Requirements
- Liverpool Institute of Archgels (LIH) registered or equivalent with substantial responseable induction to post.
- C accumulated trust in definitive structure of planning legislation, policy and condition and customs across the sector.
- Clearly show relevant experience determining planning applications, particularly determining decision, determining objections and providing advice.
- Strong IQ. writing-selecting capabilities and a legal attention to detail.
- Proven experience of handling representations and objections at informal inquiries efficiently and effectively.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant roles, demonstrating continuous learning.
- Experience working remotely/configuration with computer and software tools required for home office.
- Commitment to continuous development within the field.

Additional Notes
- The role involves particular travel, including as necessary to buildings sites.
- In general, the Council will not fund travel back and forth to get to/from Warwick District Council offices or specific sites. Travel expenses for specific circumstances must be agreed upfront.
- This role accepts hybrid working (House + office experience).
