Planning Manager (Policy)
Salary: Grade 13
Location: Dudley
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
We are seeking an exceptional Planning Manager (Policy) to lead our Planning Policy Section, driving the preparation, monitoring and implementation of local planning policy to support the sustainable growth and regeneration of the borough. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Dudley and influencing major strategic planning decisions.
You will manage the Planning Policy Section and provide expert strategic planning advice to senior officers, elected members and stakeholders. You will lead a team of professional planning officers, fostering a high-performance culture and delivering continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the preparation, monitoring and review of the Council's Local Plan
- Managing major planning policy projects and ensuring delivery within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Providing specialist planning advice to senior management, Cabinet, Committees and elected members.
- Representing the Council at public inquiries, examinations, hearings and appeals.
- Working collaboratively with government bodies, statutory consultees, developers and partner organisations.
- Developing innovative and customer-focused service delivery, including web-based planning services.
- Managing budgets, performance frameworks, workforce development and operational planning for the section.
We are looking for a planning professional with significant post-qualification experience in strategic planning and successful leadership of professional teams.

Essential Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Town Planning accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- Sufficient relevant planning experience to be eligible for full Chartered Membership of the RTPI.
