About Infrastructure
SOCOTEC’s Infrastructure team delivers essential technical services that ensure the safety, quality and compliance of major construction and civil engineering projects across the UK. We provide independent construction materials testing to verify strength, durability and performance of key materials; foundations and pile testing to confirm ground stability; specialist structures and pavements assessment and analysis; and integrated geotechnical and structural monitoring that delivers real time data throughout project lifecycles. Our experts use industry leading methods and advanced technology to support infrastructure projects from initial site investigation through construction and long term performance, helping clients manage risk, meet regulatory standards and build safer, more resilient assets.

Plant Fitter / Fabricator

As SOCOTEC grows, so do our teams. We’re looking for a dedicated Plant Fitter / Fabricator to join our Infrastructure division and wear the SOCOTEC badge with pride.
We are seeking a proactive, reliable, and flexible Plant Fitter / Fabricator to join our Infrastructure team. In this role, you’ll need the confidence to work independently, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team. You'll bring strong mechanical and fabrication skills, a solid understanding of health & safety requirements, and a genuine commitment to maintaining equipment to the highest standards.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):
- Maintain plant, drilling equipment, vehicles, tooling and operational assets in a safe, compliant and serviceable condition.
- Provide workshop-based and site-based mechanical, fabrication and engineering support to drilling and operational teams.
- Inspect, service, diagnose and repair plant, rigs, vehicles, trailers, compressors, generators, pumps, tooling and associated equipment.
- Attend operational sites, depots and client locations to complete inspections, repairs, breakdown support and equipment recovery where required.
- Undertake fabrication, welding, repair, refurbishment and modification works to support operational delivery.
- Support depot operations, mobilisation, demobilisation, loading, unloading, stock control and equipment readiness activities.
- Promote continuous improvement in equipment reliability, safety, quality, productivity and operational efficiency.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, professionalism, communication and customer service.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, Health & Safety requirements, PUWER, LOLER and relevant legislation.
Qualifications
To be a successful Plant Fitter / Fabricator, you should be able to demonstrate:
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Relevant plant maintenance, mechanical, fabrication, welding or engineering qualification.
- Forklift, telehandler or plant operator certification desirable.
- Relevant welding/fabrication training desirable.
- Training in LOLER, PUWER, abrasive wheels, manual handling, lifting operations or hot works desirable.
