Position Purpose
Job Purpose and Responsibilities
The purpose of this role is to support and assist the Shift Supervisor in the refining process of silver and other precious metals. The Night Plant Operative will be responsible for key operational tasks within the refinery, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with environmental standards. This role involves physical work, including heavy lifting and the use of machinery such as angle grinders. Experience in melting and casting metals is highly desirable.
Primary Duties Include
- Crystal washing and drying.
- Bar preparation, dressing, and number stamping.
- Assist with unloading crystal from cells.
- Assist with pouring fine silver bars.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in your working area/department.
- Assist with goods inwards as required.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with environmental responsibilities and ISO 14001 standards:
- Management of spills.
- Reporting environmental permit breaches.
- Control of fugitive emissions.
- Act as a trained First Aider.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety procedures, ensuring correct PPE/RPE is worn at all times.
- Operate safely when handling heavy lifting tasks and dressing bars using angle grinders.

Qualifications
To land this role you will need:
- Previous experience in a refinery or foundry environment advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience in melting and casting metals (highly desirable).
- Health & Safety conscious with a commitment to compliance.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Physically fit and capable of heavy lifting (with bars typically weighing 30kg).
- Flexible and reliable with a “can do” attitude.
- Willingness to train on multiple pieces of plant equipment.
