Plant Operator

Hourly Rate – £16 per hour
Location & Postcode – Sutton Courtenay Landfill, OX14 4PW

As a Plant Operator at FCC Environment, you will operate mobile plant to support the safe acceptance and placement of waste inputs from customers. You will be expected to work efficiently while maintaining the highest levels of safety, maximising void utilisation, maintaining site equipment in line with FCC procedures, and delivering excellent customer service.

This vacancy is for a full-time position, working five days per week.

What will you be doing?

  • Operating site plant safely and in line with company procedures and legislative requirements
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental legislation, PPC requirements and site permits
  • Carrying out daily checks, refuelling, cleaning and basic maintenance of plant and machinery
  • Reporting faults, defects, incidents, near misses and dangerous occurrences
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the site
  • Ensuring waste is managed, placed and covered correctly at the end of each shift
  • Supporting waste acceptance procedures, including identifying non-conforming waste
  • Assisting with site maintenance and supporting other local operational sites when required
  • Promoting a strong culture of safety, energy efficiency and excellent customer service

What are we looking for?

  • Experience operating heavy plant machinery (such as bulldozers, excavators, compactors, articulated dumpers, loading shovels or tractors) – desirable
  • Understanding of landfill or waste operations – advantageous
  • Ability to work safely under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Flexible and proactive approach to work
  • Good communication and people skills
  • A willingness to complete all required training and competency modules
  • A positive attitude with the ability to adapt to changing operational needs
