Plant Operator and Mechanic Coach
About the Role
Ready to use your plant operations expertise to shape the next generation of Military Engineers?
At Pearson TQ, we’re looking for an Apprenticeship Coach – Military Engineer Construction Technician, specialising in Plant Operator and Mechanic delivery, to support apprentices throughout their learning journey. In this role, you’ll help learners build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and behaviours they need to successfully complete their apprenticeship and progress in their military engineering careers.
You’ll deliver high-quality coaching, mentoring, reviews, workplace observations, and learner support, helping apprentices prepare for Gateway and achieve their apprenticeship standard. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong Plant Operator experience who enjoys developing others and wants to make a meaningful impact through apprenticeship delivery.
In this role, your success will be seen through the progress and achievements of your apprentices — supporting them to develop practical skills, demonstrate their learning, and successfully complete their programme.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Coach, mentor, and inspire apprentices throughout their apprenticeship journey.
- Support learners to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required for successful completion of the Military Engineering Construction Technician Apprenticeship.
- Deliver engaging learning, progress reviews, workplace visits, and observations that help apprentices achieve their full potential.
- Provide constructive, professional, and relevant feedback to help learners understand their progress and next steps.
- Help apprentices demonstrate their skills and knowledge through high-quality evidence and assessment activities that support successful programme completion.
- Build strong working relationships with apprentices, military or civilian line managers, colleagues, customers, and stakeholders to support positive learner outcomes.
- Use digital tools, e-portfolio systems, and online learning platforms to support effective and efficient delivery.
- Maintain accurate learner records and complete progress reviews within agreed timescales and quality standards.
- Take part in standardisation, team meetings, and Continuing Professional Development activities to support high-quality apprenticeship delivery.
- Work flexibly across apprenticeship delivery programmes when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
