Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Plant Operator role based in Dumfries working all over Scotland and North England. The Plant Operator will be responsible for operating heavy plant and equipment, such as loaders, excavators, crushers, and associated machinery, in support of our business activities. Daily tasks include performing pre-start checks, monitoring equipment performance, and reporting any faults or maintenance needs to supervisors. The role involves following site safety procedures, adhering to environmental and quality standards, and maintaining accurate operational records. The Plant Operator will work closely with other team members to ensure efficient material flow, minimize downtime, and support continuous production targets.

  • Demonstrated experience operating heavy plant and equipment (e.g., excavators, loaders, crushers) in an industrial, mining, or construction environment.
  • Strong awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations, with a consistent record of working safely and following site procedures.
  • Ability to carry out basic equipment inspections, routine maintenance checks, and accurate reporting of mechanical issues.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions, collaborate with supervisors and colleagues, and work within shift patterns.
  • Basic numeracy and record-keeping skills for tracking production, materials, and operational activities.
  • Relevant plant operation tickets, licenses, or certifications (e.g., CPCS/NPORS or equivalent) are highly beneficial.
  • Previous experience in mining, quarrying, or heavy industrial operations is an advantage.
  • Willingness to work in an outdoor, physically demanding environment and adapt to changing operational needs.
