Packaging Technician – Entry Level

Key Tasks
Accountabilities
- Be an active member of the Packaging department, working alongside Machine Operators and Technical Engineers to:
- Ensure departmental KPIs are achieved
- Develop and implement a strategy to optimise the reliability and efficiency of specific machines
- Manage personal working hours in line with departmental priorities and requests from the Reliability Manager
- Spend the majority of time on the shop floor engaging in:
- Monitoring of lines/equipment and challenging reliability performance of machines
- Upskilling of Operators and Technicians
- Execute all activities in compliance with safety standards and guidelines, ensuring personal and colleague safety
- Perform planned corrective and preventative maintenance schedules allocated to the PTE
Escalation & Expertise
- Review and validate standards (SOPs, CILs, SWIs) for Autonomous Teams as required
- Provide expert response for breakdown escalations requested by Line Owner or Reliability Manager
- Perform hands-on activities in ATO deep cleaning and tagging exercises
- Create documents to support the training of Operators and Packaging Technicians

Training & Collaboration
- Collaborate on ATO implementation, developing operator and technician skill sets through training and coaching
- Work with Reliability Managers, Line Owners, and FLMs to create optimal SKAP training documents
- Implement machine-specific GOPs (e.g., One Stop Shop GOP)
Process Improvement
- Actively contribute to reviewing the 5Y (Five Year Plan) and provide feedback to authors for continuous improvement
- Participate in equipment reliability events, including PM (Preventative Maintenance), CIL (Change in Line), and SOP reviews
Support & Maintenance Coordination
- Collaborate with the maintenance planner to ensure long-term and medium-term plans for equipment line-up
- Work with the Storeman to stage required parts based on identifying part needs with the maintenance planner
- Conduct audits and improve/sustain 5S principles in allocated areas or on specific machines
Professional Development
- Attend external training courses and visits to OEMs as required
- Participate in routine meetings aligned with Brewery MCRS requirements

- Flexible to work shifts when requested, adhering to the collective agreement

Qualifications & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Mechanical or Electrical Engineer, demonstrating core competence
- Experience or desire to learn in a non-core technical field, preferring multi-skilled or specialised candidates
Technical & Workplace Experience
- A Qualified Electrical/Mechanical Engineer with:
- Advanced-level skills/qualifications in working safely in a high-speed manufacturing/processing environment within a maintenance or technical services team
- Experience operating at a Technical Expert level in a World Class Manufacturing environment, delivering proven process improvements
- In-depth knowledge of:
- High-speed packaging equipment and machinery
- Brewing-related batch process control systems
- Refrigeration systems
- Steam systems (including steam traps, heat exchangers, and related controls)
- Compressed air plant (a benefit, but not essential)
- Exceptional electrical/mechanical/automation fault-finding skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment and effectively prioritise multiple maintenance requests while addressing key breakdowns appropriately
