Plastic Surgery Lead Coordinator

We are currently seeking a Plastic Surgery Coordinator at Great Western Hospital, Swindon who can work within the hospital on a full time, permanent basis (37.5hrs per week).

Main duties of the job

The Plastic Surgery Coordinator will support Cancer Services as an integral member of our multi-disciplinary teams, providing a pro-active and facilitative clinical pathway navigation service by supporting clinical teams in ensuring that patient care is delivered in an effective and timely manner in accordance with national guidance.

To provide administrative support services to the Consultants and clinical staff in the Plastics department and provide an accurate bookings process to ensure we can deliver the best service for patients. To facilitate a smooth running of the department and the service by acting as a focus of communication with patients and their families, GP's and Cancer Services.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will be required to have regular consultation with clinical teams and a wide range of other health professionals, including local and regional cancer teams, booking teams and other support staff, both locally and at other providers. The post holders remit is informed by relevant and contemporary national cancer policy and revisions to these frameworks as they are published. The pro-active collection and dissemination of relevant clinical data and information is a crucial part of ensuring the success of the role and the data management elements of this post should not be underestimated. They will be delegated a high level of responsibility and be expected to work independently, frequently using their own initiative within defined administrative policies and procedures without reference to senior managers.The post holders remit is informed by relevant and contemporary national cancer policy and revisions to these frameworks as they are published. The pro-active collection and dissemination of relevant clinical data and information is a crucial part of ensuring the success of the role and the data management elements of this post should not be underestimated.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to at least A-Level/diploma level or equivalent
  • Demonstrable evidence of recognised IM&T qualifications (minimum equating to ECDL)
  • Demonstrable evidence of further (relevant) Continual Professional Development

Desirable

  • Keyboard skills to RSAII or equivalent
  • Database management
  • Oncology for non-clinicians and/or National Cancer Intelligence Network elearning cancer modules

Experience

Essential

  • An understanding of medical terminology relevant to the role
  • Able to demonstrate experience of effective working in a team environment (any setting)
  • Previous experience of coordination of a service
  • Previous experience of using data validation and extraction software
  • Previous experience of using MS Office applications
  • Experience of handling highly sensitive information

Desirable

  • Previous NHS Experience
  • Previous experience of working in MDT Coordinator role
  • Familiarity with patient clinical notes and data systems
