Platform Engineer
Platform Engineer
About the Role
As a key member of our Platform team, this role presents an exciting opportunity to drive platform strategy, cloud automation, and developer experience further at UNiDAYS. You’ll work closely with our software engineering teams to enhance developer productivity and improve engineering workflows.
With a hands-on approach, you’ll identify and implement improvements in:
- Performance
- Reliability
- Scalability
- Security
- Efficiency
Your aim is to remove barriers for other teams, enabling faster delivery via shared tooling, and champion operational excellence through automation and self-serving capabilities.
This isn’t just about writing code. We’re looking for a commercially-minded Platform Engineer who can bridge the gap between user needs and business objectives while building resilient, cost-effective solutions and staying ahead of technological trends.
Our ethos embraces diversity. If you’re keen to learn and grow—even if you don’t check every box yet—we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, test, and implement cloud services via Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Collaborate with software engineers to identify opportunities for platform improvements, upskill engineers, and address their cloud needs
- Identify emerging technologies and drive enhancements across:
- Our platform
- Shared tooling
- Modules & packages
- Develop and improve self-serving capabilities for software teams
- Monitor platform performance with an SRE mindset, setting and optimising Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs)
- Define, refine, implement, and document best practices iteratively
- Participate in on-call rotations, typically one week per month (alternate fortnightly, supported by a simple runbook)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
