Platform Engineer
Platform Engineer at NewDay
As a Platform Engineer at NewDay, you'll create the tooling, automation, and cloud platforms that enable seamless software delivery across Azure and AWS. Instead of building customer-facing applications, you’ll focus on enhancing the developer experience by creating scalable platforms, simplifying deployments, and empowering engineers to work faster, safer, and more efficiently.

How You’ll Contribute

Build and evolve the internal developer platform, crafting tools and services that streamline:
- Development
- Testing
- Deployments
- Operations for engineering teams

Develop deployment tooling and automation employing modern software engineering practices to:
- Simplify and accelerate software delivery across Azure and AWS
- Remove friction and improve self-service capabilities

Design and implement cloud-native solutions using:
- Containers
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- CI/CD pipelines To enhance platform scalability, resilience, and security

Collaborate closely with:
- Platform Engineering
- SRE (Site Reliability Engineering)
- Development teams To introduce new technologies, establish engineering standards, and continuously improve platform capabilities.
Required Skills
- Hand-on expertise with either Microsoft Azure or AWS, including core cloud services:
- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Databases
- Identity services
- PaaS offerings (e.g., Azure App Services, Azure Functions, AWS Lambda)

Software engineering background with either:
- TypeScript/Node.js
- .NET/C#
- Experience building internal platforms, deployment tooling, and automation aimed at improving developer experience

Proven experience implementing:
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or ARM templates
- Automated CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy)

Strong familiarity with:
- Containerisation using Docker
- Cloud-native technologies (e.g., Kubernetes) to design scalable, resilient, and highly available platforms across Azure and/or AWS
-
Comprehensive knowledge of DevOps and platform engineering practices, including:
- Agile software delivery
- GitHub & Jira workflows
- Networking
- Authentication and authorisation
- Digital certificates
- Cloud security
- Supporting engineering teams effectively via best-in-class platform tooling
Nice-to-Have Skills
Experience or proficiency in the following will be valued:
- Building and operating production-grade Kubernetes platforms
- Managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform, ARM, or Bicep
- Designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Octopus Deploy)
- Working with monitoring and observability tools, such as:
- Azure Application Insights
- Log Analytics
- Grafana
- Championing DevOps best practices, contributing to open-source tooling, or helping teams adopt modern platform engineering methods
