Role Title: Platform AWS Engineer
Duration: contract to run until 31/10/2026
Location: London. Hybrid working with occasional travel
Rate: up to £552 p/d Umbrella inside IR35
Clearance required: Active SC Clearance. UK National
Required Skills
- DevOps
- Linux (Redhat, RPMs, SELinux, filesystems, users/groups, systems management)
- Ansible
- Git (Github, Actions CI, repositories, branches, merge requests/code reviews, etc)
- General networking, IP addressing, CIDRs, TCP/IP, TLS certificates, etc.
- Running and working with Java applications, JVMs, processes etc.
- Nginx (primarily as a proxy)
- Performance management (CPU/disk/memory sizing, etc)
- Knowledge of OpenVPN, SSH and of client/server configuration.

AWS (Admin)
- EC2 instances, ASGs, Load Balancers, Target Groups
- IAM roles, policies, Instance Profiles, permissions etc.
- Multi-account operations (assuming roles, working with multiple accounts)
- Secrets Manager
- Systems Manager
- Terraform/OpenTofu
- Networking VPC Peering, Routing
- Exposure to AWS Organisations and Service Control Policies
Security
- Able to implement security at every layer of a system stack, understanding what is likely to be an “acceptable level of security”, depending on the situation
- Able to work with security specialists to achieve the aims and requirements of the project

Optional Skills
- Architecting systems to be low-overhead, low complexity and minimum tech-debt
- ServiceNow (self-hosted)
- Working in secure, governance/assurance-lead organisations
- Microsoft technologies such as SSO and Sharepoint
- Some level of “tech support” type skills
- AWS Command line (awscli) and/or Boto3
- Collaborative writing and reviews of documentation (GFLM and Confluence)
