Senior Platform Engineer (PHP)

Up to £90,000

We’re working with a high-scale SaaS business undergoing significant engineering growth and platform evolution, currently looking to add a Senior Platform Engineer into a highly technical, product-engineering-led environment.
This role sits within a senior platform function focused on improving developer experience, internal tooling, scalability, and platform reliability across a large engineering organisation. The business operates at significant scale, supporting thousands of customers and handling high traffic volumes daily.
This is not a traditional infrastructure-heavy Platform Engineer role. The focus is much more around backend/platform engineering, developer enablement, tooling, systems scalability, and solving engineering problems that improve how development teams build and ship software.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing and improving internal platform and backend tooling
- Supporting engineering scalability, reliability, and developer experience initiatives
- Working closely with Platform, SRE, DevEx, and wider engineering teams
- Improving CI/CD workflows, QA/development environments, and automation processes
- Contributing to high-scale backend systems and platform optimisation work
- Mentoring engineers and leading smaller technical initiatives
- Supporting AI-assisted engineering workflows and tooling adoption across teams

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
