Platform Engineer
Role: Platform Engineer Salary: £60,000-£65,000 Location: Liverpool Work pattern: hybrid
Overview
This company are seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to manage and automate hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure within a high-volume e-commerce environment. This role centres on IaC, CI/CD, observability, security, reliability, cost optimisation, and advancing DevOps practices.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and manage hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (e.g. CloudFormation, Terraform), ensuring secure, repeatable, production-aligned environments. Maintain cloud and local systems (Windows/Linux), covering patching, networking, storage, virtualisation, and container platforms. Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines with blue-green, canary, and rolling deployments, including automated, zero-downtime database releases. Implement comprehensive monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated incident workflows with clear reporting. Strengthen cloud security posture (IAM, secrets, vulnerability scanning) and embed DevSecOps practices while maintaining PCI-DSS compliance. Drive reliability through SLIs/SLOs, incident response, disaster recovery testing, and capacity planning for peak events. Optimise performance and cost across hybrid environments through right-sizing, forecasting, and resource governance. Apply AI-driven tooling for anomaly detection, operational optimisation, and compliance automation. Collaborate cross-functionally, maintain documentation, and promote DevOps best practices.

Required Experience & Skills:

5+ years in DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Engineering (hybrid environments). Strong AWS expertise across compute, networking, storage, and security services. Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation required; Terraform/Pulumi desirable). Docker and ECS and/or Kubernetes. CI/CD pipeline development and controlled deployment strategies. Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals. Python (essential) and Bash/Shell scripting. Monitoring/logging tools (e.g. Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Prometheus). Cloud security tooling and solid understanding of SRE principles.
