Yeovil HQ | 3-4 days onsite (Condensed Hours Available)

Are you an experienced Platform Engineer with deep VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) expertise looking to work on some of the UK's most secure and technically challenging programmes?
We're partnering with a leading Defence organisation to recruit a Principal Platform Engineer who will play a key role in designing and delivering enterprise-scale, software-defined infrastructure within highly classified environments.
As a Principal Platform Engineer, you'll lead the design, implementation and evolution of secure VMware Cloud Foundation platforms, working alongside highly skilled engineers to deliver resilient, enterprise-grade infrastructure. You'll combine hands-on technical leadership with architecture, mentoring and customer engagement, helping shape solutions that operate in some of the most demanding environments.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the architecture, design and deployment of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) platforms.
- Design secure software-defined datacentre solutions spanning compute, storage and networking.
- Translate customer requirements into robust technical designs and implementation plans.
- Take ownership of complex technical work packages, providing estimates, technical leadership and delivery oversight.
- Embed secure-by-design principles throughout the engineering lifecycle.
- Mentor and support engineers, helping develop capability across the wider team.
- Engage directly with customers and stakeholders, presenting technical solutions and influencing key decisions.
- Contribute to platform strategy, innovation and the evolution of future infrastructure capabilities.

You'll have strong experience across several of the following:
- VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF), including vSphere, vSAN, NSX and Aria Suite
- Enterprise virtualisation and software-defined datacentre technologies
- Windows and Linux administration
- Networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing and firewalls
- NSX, network virtualisation and micro-segmentation
- Infrastructure automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, Ansible and/or Terraform
- Secure platform engineering within enterprise, government or defence environments
- Systems engineering across the full project lifecycle
- Enterprise platform integration across compute, storage and networking
- VMware VCAP certification
- AWS or other public cloud platforms
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevSecOps practices
- VxRail and hyper-converged infrastructure
- VMware Cloud Foundation lifecycle management, patching and upgrades
- Active Directory, PKI, PAM, SIEM and enterprise monitoring integrations
- Kubernetes and container platforms

Security Clearance
Due to the nature of the work, DV Clearance is strongly preferred. However, candidates holding active SC Clearance with extensive VMware Cloud Foundation experience will also be considered.
