Platform Security Research Engineer

Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join the HP Security Lab for an experienced hardware and firmware research engineer, who will focus on researching and designing security architecture for future endpoint devices to be more secure and manageable in tomorrow’s threat landscape. The role will be part of our world-class Platform Security Research team to help push the boundaries of hardware-firmware co-design for security and next-generation platform roots of trust.

On a daily basis, you will be working closely with systems security research engineers, developing and prototyping new technologies and architectures, and engaging with technologists in business units across HP to identify opportunities and help plan innovation roadmaps for the future.

The successful candidate will have solid system security skills and an accomplished background in low-level computer architecture engineering, ideally with knowledge and understanding of enterprise IT architectures. This position requires a strong research engineer who can also communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders and roles.

With more than two decades of pioneering research in computer and systems security, the HP Security Lab has a proven track record of influencing products, shaping industry standards, collaborating with academia, and driving security innovation across HP.

Job Responsibilities

  • Analyse technology trends, threat trends, and end-user needs to help drive HP’s security research and security products roadmaps
  • Developing new hardware and firmware security architectures
  • Building prototypes to de-risk and show feasibility of ideas
  • Documenting architecture and technical designs
  • Validating use cases with end-users and business partners
  • Working in a fast-paced environment that iterates and evolves rapidly

Job Requirements

  • Experience with hardware and firmware technologies (x86, ARM, UEFI, PCIe, DMA, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer architecture
  • An ability to analyse and model threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigations
  • Ability to survey and articulate technology and threat trends
  • Strong engineering skills
  • Knowledge or interest in endpoint security
  • An ability to convey technical knowledge to both technical experts and non-technical teams alike

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
