PLC Engineer
systems engineering – plc Technician / programmer
About the Role
As part of our continuous commitment to improving and modernising our operations, we are upgrading our systems and infrastructure across all sites. This exciting opportunity involves working in system integration, PLC hardware, programming, and installation, alongside cutting-edge technology to drive real impact across our operations.
You will be responsible for programming, operating, maintaining, and upgrading PLCs, HMIs, and communication network infrastructure. Experience in Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, Telemecanique, or Siemens technologies, as well as expertise in Ladder Logic programming, Function Block programming, HMI configuration, and fieldbus networks, will be essential.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to join a dynamic team, helping to optimise production sites and supply networks. Based in our East Sussex hub, you’ll travel across the West of England, delivering hands-on results in a fast-paced environment.
Core hours are 7:30 am–3:30 pm (Monday to Friday), with a standard 37-hour weekly commitment. Due to the nature of our essential services, occasional on-call standby or weekend shifts may be required to respond to incidents.
Responsibilities
- Repair, maintain, and install PLCs and HMIs to ensure reliable, efficient operations across production sites.
- Supervise contractors and external service providers onsite and remotely.
- Complete accurate, timely administration for reactive/installation work, including system software backups and maintenance records.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safe systems of work at all times.
- Handle routine administration (timesheets, health/safety documentation, vehicle log entries).
- Monitor security across production sites.
- Backup and restore PLC/HMI software and fieldbus configurations.
- Conduct fault diagnosis on PLCs, HMIs, and communication networks (e.g. Profibus, Ethernet).
- Modify, debug, and optimise PLC programmes and HMI configurations as needed.
- Write new PLC programs for site upgrades and modernisation efforts.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
