This is an excellent opportunity to work within a large, diverse university estate, helping to keep buildings safe, compliant and fully operational for staff, students and visitors. Typical duties include:
- Planned preventative maintenance of water and heating systems, including plantroom inspections, filter cleaning and replacement
- Reactive plumbing repairs and fault diagnosis across water, heating and drainage systems
- Minor installation works such as new water supplies, radiators and sanitaryware
- Supporting the management of water hygiene and legionella controls through safe maintenance practices
- Working independently or as part of a wider trades team, depending on the task
- Collaborating with electricians, joiners, handypersons and external contractors where required
- Participating in the trades out-of-hours emergency call-out rota
- All work must be undertaken in line with University procedures, statutory requirements and health and safety legislation, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
