Location: Cheetham Hill, Manchester

Contract: Temporary (Long-term)

Full Time: Monday to Friday

Pay: From £110 per day

Start Date: September 2026

Expected End Date: End of the academic year

A specialist SEN school in Cheetham Hill is seeking a dedicated and compassionate PMLD Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team from September. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity until the end of the academic year, supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex additional needs.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs, working closely with class teachers, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide personalised academic, physical, social, and emotional support. The school provides a highly structured, nurturing environment where every pupil is supported to develop independence, communication skills, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD and complex additional needs
  • Supporting pupils with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, communication needs, and complex learning difficulties
  • Assisting with personal care, mobility, and daily living activities where required
  • Supporting the delivery of personalised learning plans and EHCP targets
  • Using communication strategies such as Makaton, PECS, AAC, and sensory approaches
  • Supporting sensory activities, engagement, and interaction to promote pupil development
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and support staff
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing, behaviour regulation, and positive relationships

The Successful Applicant Will

  • Have experience supporting pupils with PMLD, complex needs, or severe learning difficulties
  • Be confident supporting personal care, mobility, and sensory needs
  • Be calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing in their approach
  • Have excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Be confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Have the right to work in the UK and full-time availability from September
  • Makaton, PECS, AAC, or sensory integration experience (desirable)
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or similar de-escalation training (desirable)
  • Hold a valid Enhanced DBS Certificate (Child and Adult Workforce) registered on the DBS Update Service (essential)
