We pride ourselves on our ambitious and forward-thinking approach to taking care of Gateshead and its people, and we passionately believe that our employees reflect that spirit in truly enabling Gateshead to thrive.

At Gateshead Council you’d be a highly valued member of a team that recognises and respects the skills that you bring to your role, encourages creativity and passionately advocates a great work / life balance. Our actions speak louder than words, and with flexi-time and hybrid working available across many of our roles, as well as a full suite of outstanding employee benefits, we’re confident that it isn’t just the salary that attracts our staff.

Help shape the future of Gateshead by supporting the delivery of transformational projects that make a real difference to communities.

The Economy, Innovation and Growth (EIG) Group is delivering some of the most significant regeneration, housing, transport and energy projects across Gateshead. Our emerging Project Management Office (PMO) plays a vital role in ensuring these programmes are governed effectively, deliver value for money and achieve positive outcomes for communities.

As a PMO Support Officer, you'll be part of a forward-thinking team helping to establish and develop project management excellence across the group. Working alongside project and programme professionals, you'll support robust governance, performance monitoring and continuous improvement, helping to ensure major investments are delivered successfully and in line with local and national project delivery standards.

Join our growing PMO and play a key role in delivering ambitious regeneration, housing, transport and energy programmes.

What You Will Get To Do

  • Support the development and implementation of project controls, governance arrangements, assurance processes and reporting frameworks across major programmes and projects.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including risk registers, issue logs, action trackers and decision records.
  • Assist with financial monitoring, benefits tracking and performance reporting against approved project baselines.
  • Help create and maintain a "single source of truth" for project information through effective digital record management.
  • Produce dashboards, reports and project insights using Microsoft 365 tools including Power BI, Planner and SharePoint.
  • Support lessons learned reviews, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to the development of PMO best practice.
  • Ensure projects comply with the Council's governance requirements, relevant policies, statutory obligations and recognised project delivery standards.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders across a range of disciplines to support successful project delivery.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
